In this episode, I sit down with Robyn Skerrett, Speech Pathologist to talk about her simple, enjoyable and effective approach to using books in a creative way for developing social language and relationship skills in children.
Robyn is highly experienced, with a successful private practice. She has extended her interest and skills with a masters degree in infant mental health, and she has a passion for working with children and families.
In her work treating with children language problems, and particularly with ASD, Robyn has found that bringing stories to life out of the pages of familiar books can lead children parents and carers to connect and develop relationships in a gently playful way.
This has been a very successful approach that her clients have enjoyed so much that she now has a unique lending library of children’s books with a twist!
Robyn shares some of her strategies and recommendations about how to use the magic of stories brought to life at home and in the classroom in small groups.
The resources Robyn mentioned in the podcast are available from her website.
